Central Valley Coyotes News Release

Editors Note: Coyotes first-year defensive specialist VonKeith Spencer came to Central Valley as a free-agent after sitting last season out. Spencer last played in Rochester in 2002, leading the Brigade in tackles with 57, (47-solo) and 8 interceptions to go along with his 15 pass deflections.

This season Spencer is looking to rise back to the top as a feature defensive specialist in the af2. He currently leads the team in interceptions with 5 and tackles with 30.5. Spencer is also tied for 3rd in the af2 in interceptions. His comments on the Coyotes season will appear regularly on centralvalleycoyotes.com.

Bakersfield was a tough loss last weekend, especially since we jumped out on them early. Defensively I feel that as a unit we played well together considering some of their drives started inside our ten yard line. I think we still have room for improvement.

This week it doesn't get any easier, we have a good San Diego team coming into our house. A lot of people were talking about the fact that they put up 91 points against Hawaii, but I'm not too concerned with that. We're a different team then Hawaii and this secondary isn't willing to give up over 70 points. We have to jump out early on these guys like we did the Blitz. We have to be physical at the line of scrimmage and we have to know our coverage's and assignments.

We need all the Coyotes fans in the Central Valley to come out this weekend and make some noise during the game. We need everybody that was here last weekend back this weekend clapping those thundersticks together making it loud in here. If we can get this place jumping then maybe it will throw San Diego's rhythm off. This is our house, nobody comes into our house without a fight.

As for my health status this week, I'm ready to go. All my injuries have healed up and it's time to go back to work. The groin is back to 100% and the shoulder is about at 97%. I'm excited to play the Riptide, they're a team that is on a roll right now. We need to knock them off of that roll and get on one ourselves.

This week have done a lot of formation reads during practice. I think this has helped us out a lot because we're not just seeing it on film, we're seeing it live which helps you react in almost a game like situation. I'm sure San Diego's going to have some new plays come Saturday, but if we can work on the one's they have been running all year long then were one step ahead of the game.

We have started to come together pretty well in the secondary over the past few weeks. Adding Darnell [Lacy], getting Jermaine [Smith] back healthy and Halakilangi [Muagututia] stepping up his game, we are turning into a good secondary. We all bring different defensive styles to the defense. Then it's like we just mesh together out on the field and make plays. We're going to turn some heads in this second half of the season.

I'm excited about playing at home again this week. I can't wait until warm-ups are over, introductions are done and were standing in the middle of the field bouncing around to "We Ready." It's going to be an all out battle Saturday night, I hope you bought a ticket because you're in store for a show.
