Manchester Wolves News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. (June 4, 2004) - Manchester native and former Wolves player Greg Krause is in Chicago this weekend as his new team, the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, prepare to take on the Chicago Rush in an AFL Quarterfinal playoff game on Sunday. Krause's presence and steady play in the trenches provided a major boost to Orlando's playoff push over the second half of the season in which the Predators won seven of their last eight games.

Orlando, the number six seed (10-6), squares off against Chicago, the number three seed (11-5), on Sunday at 3:00 PM. The game will be televised on NBC.

Krause, after starring on the offensive and defensive line with the Wolves last year in Connecticut, was promoted in the off-season to the Arena Football League, signing with the Indiana Firebirds. Krause, however, suffered an early season setback with a knee injury in training camp. The injury didn't require surgery, but Krause needed time to rehabilitate. More than a month into the season, the 6-4, 290-pound West High grad finally felt ready to come back. The Firebirds, however, were happy with their line play and together the two parties decided it would be best to find Krause a better situation.

Enter Jay Gruden and the Orlando Predators. Gruden had pursued Krause in the summer before he settled on signing with Indiana, so when he found out Krause was looking to find another place to play, he made a move to bring him to Orlando. The move paid off handsomely for both parties. Krause appeared in the Predators' final nine games of the regular season and registered 2.5 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Krause, a humble giant, has always been quick to point to the Wolves as the organization that gave him his second chance at the sport after nearly three years away from the game. The Wolves coaching staff knew what they were doing in enlisting Krause, who showed no signs of rust in his return to football in 2003, starting all 16 regular season games and two playoff games for the team.
