Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers announced late this afternoon that ESPN2's "Cold Pizza" morning sports program will feature the team's "Camp Out to Sell Out" in an upcoming episode.

"We're thrilled that this has turned into a national story," said Pioneers President Dave Berryman. "I hope the national exposure helps to further this cause for the Baker family and reinforces our commitment toward achieving our goal."

"It's a compliment to our local media for the outstanding coverage we received and their commitment to helping us achieve our goal," added Berryman. "We could not have received national recognition without their support."

The Pioneers entire staff had camped out in front of the team's administrative office from May 31st through June 4th in an effort to raise awareness for the Sherwood Baker Memorial Fund. The team hopes to be able to present a check for $20,000 to the family of SGT Sherwood Baker, who was killed in Iraq in April. In order to present the check for the fund, the June 5th game against the Manchester Wolves must be sold out.

If the June 5th game is not a sellout, fundraising efforts for the Sherwood Baker Memorial Fund will continue for the duration of the team's 2004 season through other initiatives.

The game, which has been designated as Military Appreciation Night, will also feature an induction ceremony at halftime for 25 U.S. Army enlistees.

Cold Pizza airs live from New York City weekdays from 7am-9am ET, (encores from 9am-11am ET), and offers a unique blend of sports, pop culture, lifestyles and entertainment features.

Fans may inquire about ticket availability for the June 5th game by calling the team at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848.
