Motor City Mechanics News Release

FRASER, MI-For the second time in two weeks another Mechanic has been called upon by the Cleveland Barons to suit up and gain some AHL experience.

Defenseman, Matt Smith will be making the trip to Cleveland tonight and be in the lineup as the Barons take on the Hamilton BullDogs at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Smith has definitely earned the recognition as he currently leads all defensemen on the Mechanics in points (16) and goals (8). Smith also leads the UHL in goals (8) and Power play goals (6).

With 56 AHL games under his belt, Smith is no stranger to the AHL style of play. Smith played 54 games with the Worcester IceCats spanning from the 1997, 1998 and 1999 seasons. In 2002 he played in two games with the San Antonio Rampage. During those 56 games Smith totaled 4 goals, 8 assists for 12 points and 91 Penalty minutes.

On December 10th, Goaltender, Bill Ruggiero was the first Mechanic to be called up. Ruggiero made the trip to Grand Rapids to suit up for the Barons when the Barons faced the Grand Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena.
