Paolini, Mann become first Jackals call-ups

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today left wing Sam Paolini and defenseman Chris Mann have been called-up to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, the first promotions for any Jackals players this season.

Paolini, who has 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists) through 24 games, ranking 5th on the team in scoring this season. A native of Rochester, NY, he has played a combined 9 games with Rochester during call-ups with the Amerks over the last two seasons, he has 1 goal and 6 PIMs during that time. Overall Paolini, a Cornell University graduate, has played 15 games in the AHL for 5 different teams and has scored 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists).

Mann, a rookie from Cornwall, Ontario, will make his AHL debut tonight for Rochester. It is the first AHL call-up of the Elmira College graduates' young career. Through 26 games played, Mann has 1 assist and leads the Jackals (4th overall in the UHL) with 131 penalty minutes. Mann is tied for 2nd in the league with 33 minor penalties, he also has 7 majors to his credit.

"We are very excited that Sam and Chris have earned this opportunity," said Jackals Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. "It just goes to show that hard work and a good attitude always pays off. For Sam, it is sort of a homecoming as he is from Rochester and has already played for the Amerks. For Chris, he is our hardest worker each day in practice and the grittiest player we have. He deserves this shot tonight to make a great first impression."

Both players have left Elmira around noon, heading up to Rochester and expect to be in the lineup tonight as the Americans (16-13-0-1, 33 points - 4th place) host their Western Conference North Division rival Syracuse Crunch (15-11-1-1, 32 points - 5th place) tonight at 7:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The game will be televised tape delayed on Time Warner Cable Channel 98 on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast Live on the radio on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on www.whtk.com. Further, the contest is available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for a $6.00 fee.

The Jackals will be back home at the First Arena tomorrow night, Friday December 23rd as they host the Danbury Trashers for a 7:05 pm face-off, their first home game after 6-straight games on the road.
