The Pelicans defeat El Paso 4-1

John Webb threw a complete game as the Pensacola Pelicans downed the El Paso Diablos 4-1 in the series opener from Pelican Park in Pensacola, FL.

The Pelicans opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. They pounded out three runs on three hits. Jack Joffrion, Chris Reynolds, and Brandon Sing all had RBI's for Pensacola.

The Diablos scored their lone run in the top of the fifth. Alex Derhak crushed a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Pensacola got a run of insurance in the bottom of the sixth. Chris Reynolds smacked his second RBI single of the ball game, making it 4-1.

John Webb (6-4) picks up the complete game victory. He threw nine innings allowing one run off of three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Josh Kauten (0-2) takes the complete game loss. He threw eight innings allowing four earned runs off of seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Diablos finished the night with a season low three base hits. The game was the shortest of the season at only 1:50.

The Diablos and Pelicans will square off in the second game of their series on Tuesday night at 5:35 PM MST. Adam Blackley will throw against Daniel Smith for the Pelicans. The game will be carried live on www.diablos.comwith Jon Barr on the call.
