Pensacola Pelicans News Release

Pelican's starter, John Webb would go the distance as the Pensacola Pelicans (4-10) defeated the El Paso Diablos (7-6) by a score of 4-1. Webb pitched nine strong innings allowing only one run on three hits while striking out six in the first nine inning complete game by a Pelicans pitcher this season.

The Pelicans wasted no time tonight as they would jump out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning. Matt Pali and Rafael Alvarez got things going as they both would reach base on broken bat singles. El Paso's starter, Josh Kauten then walked Josh Morgan and Brandon Sing to give the Pelicans the first run of the game. With bases still loaded, Jack Joffrion drove in Alvarez on a sacrifice fly to right, making it 2-0 Pels. Chris Reynolds would follow up with a line drive base hit into the left center field gap to score Brandon Sing for the third run of the inning.

Alex Derhak would break up the shutout for the Diablos in the top half of the fifth inning. Derhak would take John Webb's offering over the left field fence to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

Pensacola would answer right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one down, Joffrion smoked a double into the left center field gap to put him in scoring position. Chris Reynolds then singled up the middle to drive him in to give the Pelicans a 4-1 lead after six.

On the night, Chris Reynolds's was 2-for-3 with two RBI singles.

John Webb retired the final nine batters of the game to finish the quick one hour and fifty minute game as the Pelicans won 4-1.

Dan Smith will take the mound tomorrow night in game two of this three game series.
