Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC News Release
It is a battle of the storms in Northern Colorado on Saturday.
Three days after their draw with North Carolina FC, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC play host to South Georgia Tormenta FC in the first meeting of the two sides. South Georgia's last match had them visiting the Richmond Kickers, after 90 minutes it resulted in a 2-2 draw.
Only nine games into their season, the Tormenta have yet to pick up a win in their stadium, but have yet to lose away from home. The leading goal scorer for South Georgia, Barry Sharifi, has three of those, including the goal that opened the scoring against Richmond in that 2-2 draw.
Tormenta FC have the second worst conversion rate in USL League One, sitting at just 10%. The club will be without defender Deshawon Nembhard, as he was called up to play with Belize's national team in their CONCACAF Nations League matches against the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and a pair of matches against French Guiana.
Johan Peñaranda made four big stops on Wednesday, keeping the Hailstorm in the match even as North Carolina out-shot them 6-3. In the three matches Peñaranda has started he has helped the team pick up five points, making eight saves and keeping one clean sheet in those matches.
Similarly, in the three matches he has started Trevor Amann has been making his presence known at the front of the formation. He scored in his first professional start against Charlotte and nearly had a second in the same match. Amann added an assist on Irvin Parra's lone goal against North Carolina on Wednesday,
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MDT at Jackson Stadium in Greeley, Colorado. Expect it to be sunny and in the high 90s. The game, as with all USL League One games this season, will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will play its home matches in the 6,500-seat TicketSmarter Stadium at the Future Legends Complex, the premier destination for sports and events in Northern Colorado. Tickets for home matches in the month of June are now available online. June home matches will be played at the University of Northern Colorado's Jackson Stadium.
Opening in 2022, the 118-acre Future Legends Complex will feature two stadiums, multiple baseball diamonds and multi-purpose fields, an indoor sports arena, lodging, and retail; and will host guests for major sports tournaments, events, leagues, and more.
