FIRE LOSE CLOSE ONE... The Fire (3-1) suffered their first defeat of the 2004 season to Wilkes-Barre (4-0), 59-51 last Saturday night in Wilkes-Barre. WR/DB Tony Stallings led the way for the Fire with four total touchdowns earning US Army Ironman of the Game honors for the third time this season. The Fire will get their chance to avenge the loss on May 29 when the Pioneers visit Freedom Hall. The Fire will finish up their three game road swing this Saturday night in Memphis (2-2) at 7:00 p.m. You can catch all of the action with Paul Wilman on 1080-AM WKJK. FIRE FOURTH IN COACHES POLL... Following last week's loss to Wilkes-Barre the Fire dropped from second to fourth in this week's coaches poll. Wilkes-Barre jumped up to number one and the Wichita Stealth (4-0) dropped to second. Midwest Division rival Quad City (4-1) moved up one spot to number three. The only other future opponent appearing the top 12 is the Hawaiian Islanders (3-2) who dropped from seven to nine.
INSIDE THE FIRE... The Louisville Fire television show Inside the Fire is traveling around this season to different Applebee's locations in Greater Louisville. The show is taped every Monday night. Next Monday's show will be taped at the Fern Creek Applebee's starting at 6:30. Fire fans are welcome to come out and watch the taping and talk with coach Johnson and other Fire players. You can catch the coach's show on WYCS, Insight Channel 24 every Thursday at 7:00.
MATT AND BOB... Don't forget every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. on Xtra Sports 790 Fire QB Matt Sauk joins Bob Valvano to preview the upcoming game. This week Fire OL/DL Brandon Dyson will join them. Don't forget every Tuesday night on Xtra Sports 790 from 5-6 is the Louisville Fire coaches show with Fire play-by-play man Paul Wilman. MOTHER'S DAY... Mother's Day is this Sunday. The first two (2) people to respond to the Fire Wire will win each win a free massage courtesy of A Healing Touch, the official massage therapist of the Louisville Fire.
AXE IS OUT AND ABOUT... In the next few weeks Fire mascot AXE will be out in the community. Look for him this Friday night at the Paws for Purpose fundraiser starting at 7:00 p.m. at Amvets Post #61, 9405 Smyrna Parkway. He will be at Flabby's in Germantown next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Friday May 14 AXE, players and the Wildfires will be at the Relay for Life at Tom Sawyer Park.
JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND PARENTS... JCPS, the Louisville Fire and Perkins Chrysler have teamed up to help your school. Contact your school principal about Jefferson County Public Schools night at the May 29 game, proceeds from ticket sales at each school will go to help your school raise funds for the school.
