Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

HARLINGEN, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (17-26) defeated the Harlingen WhiteWings (15-27) 12-4 on Thursday night as the bats pounded out 20 hits. Carlos Yan (1-0) finally made his season debut for the Coyotes as he went five and 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs but only one was earned and he struck out six in his first win of the year. But the Coyote offense was the key on Thursday night, as they got on the board in the first inning. Daryl Jones brought in Gary Roche from third base with an infield single to take an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth inning, Logan Wood put the first pitch he saw from Juan Jimenez in the left field bullpen for a two run home run to put the Coyote lead at 3-0. After back to back singles by Alex Entrekin and Eric Gonzalez, Roche hit an RBI single into center field to score Entrekin from third. That made the score 4-0. That was not enough for the Coyote offense as they kept things going in the top of the fifth as Jones and Mayobanex Santana had back to back singles. Wood then drove in two runs with a single into left field that gave the Coyotes a 6-0 advantage. The WhiteWings got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kevin Griffin hit an RBI single into left field that scored Anthony Slagle from third base cutting the Coyote lead to five.

The WhiteWings added three runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Slagle walked in a run with the bases loaded to make the score 6-2. Then Amadeo Zazueta hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Ryan Fox to cut the lead to three. Then David Fowler had an RBI single to left field to score Terry Roblez from third base and that put the score at 6-4. With the lead down to two runs, the Coyote offense added some cushion in the top of the seventh inning as Santana scored on an error by David Cardona in right field. But the offense was not finished as they headed to the ninth inning. With the score 7-4, the Coyotes added five runs on four hits to push the score to 12-4. Logan Wood picked up his fifth RBI of the night with a single into right field that scored Jones from third base. The bullpen did its job not shutting down the Harlingen offense. Bryan Heaston, Luke Prihoda, and Julio Castro worked three and 2/3 innings not allowing any runs. The Coyotes and the WhiteWings will play game two Friday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
