Laredo Broncos News Release

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos gave up 8 runs in the bottom of the 7th as they were defeated by the Alexandria Aces at Bringhurst Field by the score of 10-2 on Thursday. The Broncos continue on their 6 game trip with the middle game of a 3 game series against the Alexandria Aces on Friday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos got on the scoreboard first in the top of the 2nd inning. With two outs, Santiago Guerrero connected on a solo home run, his 4th of the season. That gave Laredo the early 1-0 lead.

The Aces would tie the game up in the bottom half of the 2nd. Palmer Karr Jr. walked to start the inning. Then Rafael Ozuna doubled scoring Karr Jr. from 1st. That would make the score 1-1.

Laredo would get back on the board in the top of the 3rd. With one out Steven Wright doubled. That was followed by a walk to Anthony Bennett. Then Dwayne White singled knocking in Wright. After Bennett was picked off at 2nd base, Luany Sanchez was called out on strikes. He was not happy about it and started barking to home plate umpire Stacy Dunbar and got ejected. Manager Dan Shwam then came out to argue on his player's behalf, and was also ejected. After all that the Broncos had a 2-1 lead.

Both starting pitchers would settle down after the 3rd inning. Alexis Sosa for the Aces recovered from the early runs given up by being dominant with the strikeouts. He fanned 9 batters thru his 6 innings. Sean Donlin would retire 9 out of 11 hitters he faced thru the 4th-6th innings for Laredo. Unfortunately for Donlin, one of the men he could not retire in the 6th inning was Rafael Ozuna who hit a solo home run, his 2nd of the season. That would tie the game up at 2 after 6 innings.

The Aces would blow the game open in the bottom of the 7th inning. Donlin started the inning by walking Andre Marshall. He would then be done for the night, as the Broncos brought in Dan Sausville. Sausville would walk the first man he faced Albert Gonzalez. Then Eddie Fitzpatrick laid down a perfect bunt to beat it out and load the bases. The very next batter Bryan Sabatella would walk, forcing in a run. That run would be charged to Donlin. That would do it for Sausville, as he was replaced by David Wasylak. Wasylak would not fair much better as he hit the first man he faced in Luis Guance which scored Gonzalez. Selwyn Langaigne would then hit a ball to Ben Tinnius at 3rd. Tinnius bobbled it allowing a run to score and everyone to be safe. After a strikeout, Rafael Ozuna hit a slow roller back to the Wasylak who threw late to home allowing Sabatella to score. Madison Edwards would then hit into a force out, with Guance being thrown out at home. Wasylak would then walk 3 straight batters, which forced in a run every time. Wasylak was taken out for Rhett Barber. Barber gave up a single to Sabatella which scored one on the play, but Albert Gonzalez was thrown at home to end the inning. Alexandria would score 8 runs in the inning on 1 hit. Broncos pitchers walked 6 in the inning. Aces led the game 10-2 after 7 innings.

Laredo would do nothing after that and went on to lose the opener by a score of 10-2.

The Broncos scored 2 runs on 7 hits and committed 3 errors, while the Aces scored 10 runs on 5 hits and committed 0 errors.

The Broncos fall to 21-22 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Friday night when they play game 2 of a 3 game set against the Alexandria Aces at 7:05.
