Coyotes Put Away WhiteWings in Ninth

Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings (15-28) trailed the Edinburg Coyotes (17-26) 7-4 entering the ninth, but the Coyotes scored five runs to win 12-4 tonight at Harlingen Field.

Daryl Jones led off the ninth with a single against Chris Street. Mayobanex Santana reached on an error and Amado German singled to load the bases. Logan Wood hit an RBI-single and Alex Entrekin hit an RBI-ground out. After Angelo Fermin drew a nine-pitch walk, Eric Gonzalez drew an RBI-walk. Gary Roche hit an RBI-ground out and Robert Matlock followed with an RBI-single to cap the inning.

In the top of the first, Roche, Matlock and Jones hit consecutive one-out singles to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead against Juan Jimenez (2-2).

In the fourth, German led off with a single and Wood followed with his fifth home run of the season. Entrekin singled, moved to second on a ground out, to third on an Gonzalez single, and came home on a Roche single to make it 4-0.

Jones and Mayobanex Santana led off the fifth with singles to knock out Jimenez. Bobby Darling came in, and after a passed ball moved the runners up, gave up a two-run single to Wood to make it 6-0.

The WhiteWings got on the board against Carlos Jan (1-0) in the bottom of the fifth. Anthony Slagle and Amadeo Zazueta led off with singles. An out and a wild pitch later, Kevin Griffin hit an RBI-single to make it 6-1.

In the sixth, Argelis Nunez reached on an error and Ryan Fox walked. One out later, Terry Roblez singled to load the bases and knock out Jan. Bryan Heaston came in and walked Slagle to force in a run. Zazueta then hit a sacrifice fly. David Fowler followed with an RBI-single to make it 6-4.

The Coyotes got one back in the seventh. With one out, Santana struck out, but when the pitch got away, Brian Nichols couldn't handle the throw at first. German singled to move Santana to third, and Wood hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped, allowing Santana to score.

The WhiteWings and Coyotes play game two of this three-game series tomorrow night at 7:05. Right-hander Maximino de la Cruz (0-0) will make his season debut against right-hander Aaron Guerra (2-1).
