Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba â The wait is finally over for Brandon Wheat Kings' 19-year old captain Tim Konsorada.
The former sixth round draft choice of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets will make his season debut tonight when the Wheat Kings set out to snap a 2-game losing streak in Saskatoon against the Blades.
The 6'1" 211 lb Lamont, Alberta native has been sidelined for the past four months after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder on September 22nd in Winnipeg after failing his physical at the Blue Jackets' training camp.
"I just can't wait to play," Konsorada told James Shewaga of the Brandon Sun. "I missed playing so much and it's just going to be fun. It's something you do that you love."
Selected as the club's new captain in September, the four year WHL veteran dons the "C" for the first time tonight.
"It's something that's a big honour from the beginning of the year and I was always looking forward to wearing it and it's going to be great," Konsorada told the Brandon Sun.
A former first round bantam draft pick of the Wheat Kings (13th overall in 1999), Konsorada is coming off a career year that saw him finish third in club scoring last season with 22 goals and 70 points in 72 games. During his WHL career, he has scored 49 goals, 141 points and accumulated 143 penalty minutes in 215 games.
Brandon fans will get their first opportunity of the season to see "T.K." this weekend when the Wheat Kings host Moose Jaw on Friday night and the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday.
Joining Konsorada this weekend will be 17-year old right-winger Jeff Topilko, who has missed the past month with a knee injury. The news is also good for the other three on the hockey club's injured list. Veteran Lance Monych, who sustained a shoulder injury during last Friday's loss to Prince Albert and rookie Derek Leblanc, who injured his shoulder against Swift Current on Saturday, could be back in the lineup within a week. Slovakian Richard Jasovsky meanwhile is two weeks away.
