Berkshire Black Bears News Release

After five innings of play tonight, the Black Bears looked as though they were cruising towards a series sweep against Allentown; now they'll have to fight Sunday afternoon just to take the four-game set.

Berkshire went into the top of the sixth leading 4-1, with their starter, Rick Guttormson, cruising. Then the docile diplomats from Allentown returned fire, taking their first lead of the series. Vic Davilla led the counterattack with a 3-run cannon shot in the sixth inning, part of a seven run frame. The Ambassadors did not flinch, putting two more runs on the board in the top of the seventh, when DH Julio Acosta blasted his first home run of his pro career, a two-run shot that carried more than 400 feet over the centerfield fence.

Tim Davidson (1-1) picked up his first win of the season while Guttormson (1-3) took the loss. The defeat was particularly difficult to swallow for the Black Bears who were hoping to make up some serious ground, after their slow start, during this 7-game homestand.

Sunday afternoon's series finale is set for a 2:05 pm first pitch.
