The Story:
The Lions will enter their final match of the group stage in Leagues Cup play, hosting Liga MX side Santos Laguna.
City currently sits in second place of South Group 2 with two points after taking the extra point via penalty shootout against the Houston Dynamo last week.
Santos is currently in third in South Group 2 with one point after falling in the penalty shootout at Houston on Tuesday.
The winner of Saturday's meeting between the Lions and Santos Laguna will advance to the knockout round of the tournament with the loser set to go home.
If the Lions prevail in the penalty shootout, then they would be set for a visit to Inter Miami next week. However, if they lose in penalty kicks and the regulation score is anything less than a 3-3 draw, then City's run in the 2023 Leagues Cup tournament would come to an end.
Quote of the Week:
"It's a great opportunity to compete against a good rival like Santos Laguna. Obviously, it's going to increase this rivalry between the leagues of Mexico and the United States. [Our] mission is to continue [in Leagues Cup] and advance to the next round. The players are good, we are optimistic, and we are looking forward to a good game."
- Head Coach Oscar Pareja
