Anchorage Wolverines News Release
The Anchorage Wolverines gave up another two points towards league standings with tonight's tough 2-1 loss against the Chippewa Steel.
Anchorage dominated through the first frame, taking the early lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Fedya Nikolayenya found Jackson Stimple for the first goal of the night and Stimple's seventh on the season.
Anchorage went on to collect nine more shots through the frame compared to Chippewa's mere four.
Beerman had a remarkable save coming in during the middle of the second frame after Chippewa's Cam Springer broke through Anchorage's defense and landed himself 1v1 with Beerman, a backhanded shot was saved by Beerman's right toe.
At 11:44 in the second, with Nikolayenya in the box, Chippewa's Joey Sylvester took a power play shot that Joe Kelly tipped off for the Chippewa Steel's equalizing point.
Monrean nearly brought the lead back to Anchorage with just over a minute left in the second frame with a one-handed shot, stopped before the line with a sprawl save from Chippewa's netminder, Carter Wishart.
Jack Christen gave Chippewa their game winning goal 4:44 into the final period. Tonight was Christen's debut game for Chippewa, as he was recently traded from the Odessa Jackalopes where he played three seasons for 135 games.
The Wolverines pulled Beerman with 2:30 left in the contest, playing a man up for the rest of the game but were unable to capitalize on the advantage.
The two teams will meet for their final game of the series tomorrow with another 4:00pm AKST puck drop in Chippewa Falls.
