February 10, 2024 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Anchorage Wolverines News Release
The Anchorage Wolverines redeem themselves with a 3-2 win over the Chippewa Steel.
The first period was slow for both teams, with Anchorage having a single shot on goal throughout the first 10 minutes and only eight throughout the entire period.
In net for Anchorage, Liam Beerman saw 14 shots throughout the first. Beerman allowed one goal in the period, for Nick Hatton of Chippewa's first goal of the season.
Tyler Hennen leveled the score early in the second period with a pass from Fedya Nikolayenya. As Hennen was entering the ice from the bench, he found the puck, beating Chippewa's goal tender Ajay White to bring the Wolverines back in the game.
Tai Ushio brought the lead to Anchorage at eight minutes into the second. Receiving the puck from Jack Darby, Ushio rattled off a shot that was denied by White before Ushio could bury his rebound.
Nikolayenya widened Anchorage's lead at 8:42 in the third period, with an assist from Timothy Kim. This is Kim's second appearance for the Wolverines and first point while wearing the jersey.
With just under two minutes left in the contest and Chippewa on a power play, Talon Blanck sniped Chippewa's final goal.
The Wolverines maintained their one-point lead until the final buzzer, securing two points toward league standings, splitting the series and ending Chippewa's five game winning streak.
The Wolverines will return home this week, playing the Kenai River Brown Bears in Soldotna on Friday and at The Ben on Saturday with a 7:00pm puck drop.
