
That stings, Rangers fall in OT

Kitchener, ON: After scoring twice in the third period the Rangers were unable to pull out a win tonight falling in overtime to the visiting Sarnia Sting 4-3 before a standing room only crowd of 5,939.
In the first period the Sting wasted no time in taking the lead when David Pszenyczny beat Brad Topping at 2:34 of the period. Andre Benoit tied the game at 1-1 with his team-leading 23rd of the season at 7:35. Marek Chvatal gave the Sting the lead after 20 minutes with his 4th goal of the season at 8:47.
The teams played scoreless hockey for much of the second period until Daniel Sisca buried his 22nd of the season at 14:38 to give the Sting the 3-1 advantage.
Carlo DiRienzo started the third period after Topping allowed three goals 23 shots.
Paul McFarland scored a shorthanded goal to start the 3rd period, his 9th of the season at 5:37, to cut the Sting lead to 3-2. Nathan O'Nabigon forced the game into overtime with his 17th at 13:01. The goal came while on the power play.
In the overtime the Rangers hit a goalpost and two crossbars before Dan Fritsche of the Sting beat Carlo DiRienzo to win the game 4-3.
The Rangers next home game is Saturday, January 31st vs the Guelph Storm. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Game Notes: Andre Benoit scored his team leading 23rd goal of the season...Benoit's 23 goals also lead all CHL defensemen...Thomas Harrison added another assist for his 5th point in his last 5 games...Carlo DiRienzo turned aside 15 of the 16 shots he faced...Nathan O'Nabion was named the game's 3rd star...the Rangers extended their point streak to 15 games at home...the Rangers now have 9 players with 13 or more goals...Boris Valabik picked up a minor penalty and now has 192 PIM's on the season...the Rangers now have 4 players with 100 or more PIM's.
