Generals slip past Otters in OT

OSHAWA, Ontario – Ben Eager capped a four-point night with the game winner 58 seconds into over time as the Oshawa Generals nipped the ERIE OTTERS 5-4 in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,417 at the Oshawa Civic Auditorium.

Eager had two goals and two assists in the game. Fred Hatziioannou, Brandon McBride and Chris Petrow also scored for the Generals. Tobias Whelan collected three assists.

Brian Lee, Jason Speight, Derek Merlini and Rob Hisey scored for the OTTERS. Hisey's goal came with just 21 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. The goal also extended his point-scoring streak to a career-high 11 games (6-16-22). Geoff Platt collected an assist on the equalizer to extend his point-scoring streak to 10 games (9-6-15).

The OTTERS led 2-1 after one and 3-2 heading into the third.

The OTTERS picked up a point in the standings in to the OT loss. ERIE is now 23-18-6-2 on the season.

The Generals extended their winning streak to five games with the win. Oshawa is 18-21-8-1 on the season.

The OTTERS out shot the Generals 34-32 in the game as Jhase Sniderman started and took the loss.

The three stars of the game were 1. Whelan; 2. Eager and 3. Hisey.

The next OTTERS home game takes place this Saturday when the Sarnia Sting (24-16-4-4 heading into their game tonight against the Toronto St. Michael's Majors) visit the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office. The game can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.
