Saginaw Spirit forward Nick Lees pushed in goals number 27 and 28 but it wasn't enough for victory against the Eastern Conference Toronto St. Michael's Majors in Saginaw Friday night.
St. Mike's opened scoring in the first period by the Spirit were able to equalize early in the second on Lees' first goal of the night. Lees and Spirit forward Jesse Gimblett connected, from a Georgi Misharin pass to beat the St. Mike's goalie. For Gimblett, the assist extended his points streak to eight games.
St. Mike's scored twice more before the Spirit were able to score on a 6 on 3 powerplay, with Spirit goaltender Mike Brown pulled early for the extra attacker. The Spirit played with at least a man advantage for the remainder of the game, but St. Mike's held off the attack for victory.
Spirit goaltender Mike Brown turned back 21 shots in the effort. The loss takes the Spirit record to 12-33-2-3 on the season. Saginaw is back on ice Saturday against the Owen Sound Attack, at 7:00 PM at the Saginaw County Event Center. It's MCVI radio night for the first 4000 fans, and there's a bonus High School hockey game ahead of the Spirit game. The Nouvel Panthers take on the Bay County Thunder at 4:00 PM. Your ticket to the Spirit game is your ticket to the high school game.
