Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (March 31)- A slow start cost the Brahmas Game Three in the Southern Conference Semifinals as they fell 6-3 against the Odessa Jackalopes Wednesday evening.
The Jackalopes managed to score two goals before the Brahmas recorded a shot on goal in the opening period setting the stage for a 3-0 Odessa lead heading into the first intermission. Jeff Pierce started off the offense when he converted on the powerplay at the 4:50 mark in the game. Three minutes later Garrett Gruenke put Odessa up by two when his shot beat an out of positioned Brett Jaeger.
Texas allowed another goal in the opening frame, this time developed from a pile of players in front of Jaeger's crease. The goal was credited to Alex Dunn, his second of the postseason.
Things turned around for the Brahmas in the second beginning with a powerplay goal 3:51 within the period. In signature Jordan Cameron fashion the Brahmas leading scorer slapped a shot past Juha Toivonen for his second goal in the playoffs. The Jackalopes found themselves in penalty trouble midway in the period giving Texas a 5-on-3 opportunity for 1:43. Within 30 seconds of the two man advantage Justin Kinnunen in a swarm in front of Toivonen's net buried the puck to pull the home team within one.
A pair of back to back goals by Odessa in the third doomed a Texas bid of a comeback beginning with Pierce's second tally of the night. Less than a minute later Jaeger and the Brahmas gave up a fifth goal, this time to Mike Ramsay. The purple and black were able to get on the boards once more with a goal from Adam Chorneyko, but the deficit was too large in a small amount of time as Odessa netted an empty net goal to conclude Game Three with a 6-3 final.
The Brahmas lead the best of seven series 2-1 and host Game Four in the Southern Conference Semifinals (Home Playoff Game Three) Friday at the NYTEX Sports Centre for a 7:05 PM faceoff. The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive a FREE playoff t-shirt courtesy of DaVinci Medical and NYTEX Sports; doors open at 6:05 PM.
