After a scoreless first period, the Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of unanswered goals less than three minutes apart. Texas worked the puck deep in the Houston zone and right wing Colton Sceviour snapped a shot to the net that was deflected by Aero's goalie Wade Dubielewicz. The rebound popped up and was swatted in mid-air by winger Travis Morin. The Stars forward netted his first goal of the season at 7:55, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. Just past the halfway point of the period, the Stars struck again. A loose rebound squirted to Greg Rallo in the Houston crease. Rallo snapped a shot into the back of the Aeros net at 10:04, extending the Stars lead to 2-0. The Aero's Brandon Rogers cut the Texas lead in half before the end of the period. Rogers scored off a loose puck turnover in the Stars zone, beating goalie Matt Climie at 11:13 for the 2-1 score.
In the third period, Mathieu Beaudoin scored the empty-net goal with two seconds remaining for the final score of 3-1.
Prior to the game, Texas announced that goalie Charlie Effinger has been released.
