Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - A day after being stifled by a big Frederick Keys fourth inning, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, used a monster fourth of their own in a 3-1 win at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Myrtle Beach tied the score on back-to-back doubles from Tomas Telis and Vinny DiFazio. Two batters later, Santiago Chirino and Teodoro Martinez went back-to-back with doubles to score two more runs and put Myrtle Beach in front for good at 3-1. In conjunction with a first inning double from Christian Villanueva, the Pelicans five doubles tied a season high.
The fourth inning offense was all Pelicans starter Nick Tepesch needed, firing his first quality start and earning his first win of 2012. Tepesch struggled in the first, matching his previous season total with two walks. He coasted after that, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts. Joe Van Meter tossed the final three innings perfectly for his first save.
Myrtle Beach has guaranteed at least series split with Frederick after the win Wednesday. Kyle Hendricks throws for the Birds in the finale Thursday at 7:05 against Rick Zagone. For ticketing information call 843-918-6000 or visit MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
