Frederick Keys News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Scoring just once on three hits, the Keys struggled offensively as they fell to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 3-1.

After the fourth inning, the Keys did not have a single baserunner as 17 consecutive Keys batters were retired from the fourth inning until the end of the game.

Pelicans starter Nick Tepesch and reliever Joe Van Meter combined to allow just one run on three hits, the last of which came in the fourth inning.

The Keys held an early 1-0 after Ty Kelly and Mike Flacco drew back-to-back walks in the first inning. Two batters later, Kipp Schutz knocked home a baserunner on an RBI single to give the Keys the early lead.

Yet that would be their only run they would score on the night as the Keys would only get two more hits after then.

Myrtle Beach took the lead in the fourth inning off of Keys' starting pitcher Mike Wright by scoring three times to take a 3-1 lead they never gave up. In the fourth inning, the Pelicans had four hits, all of which were doubles.

The scoring started for Myrtle Beach when Tomas Telis led the inning off with a double. Vinny DiFazio doubled to bring home Telis to tie the score at one. After Wright recorded two quick outs, Santiago Chirino and Teodoro Martinez hit back-to-back doubles to bring home two more runners as the Pelicans took a 3-1 lead.

The Keys were never able to get back in the game from there as they struggled mightily to put runners on base.

The Keys will try and even the four-game series on Thursday night when LHP Rick Zagone (1-0, 2.00 ERA) takes the mound against Kyle Hendricks (0-2, 3.52 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and live coverage starts at 6:45 PM on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
