Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - Max Povse and Matt Tellor, two of Atlanta's 2014 draft picks, shined this afternoon against the Princeton Rays. Povse fanned nine Rays, while Tellor smacked two home runs and drove in four total runs powering the Braves to an 8-2 blowout victory.

Max Povse had his best professional outing of his career in his seventh appearance, his sixth start. Povse did not allow a run in his 5.0 innings of work, making good use out of his fastball and slider to get ahead in the count. Povse allowed just three hits and one walk in a dominant game, striking out a career and D-Braves season high nine batters. Povse's stuff was electric today, showcasing a slider that he used primarily as his out pitch.

Matt Tellor has been the catalyst for the D-Braves' offense since his return to the lineup in mid-July, and was just that in today's outing. Tellor smashed a first pitch fast ball in the third inning with two on, a ball that the park had no chance of holding in right field. Tellor would be back at it again in the sixth inning, this time knocking a solo shot over the right-center field wall. His two home runs give him four on the season in just 15 games, which leads the team.

Another hot bat for the Braves was back at it tonight, as Ozzy Albies had another great day of baseball. The 17 year-old shortstop from Willemstad, Curacao went 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the winning effort today, extending his hitting streak to five games. Albies now has a batting average of .468 in 13 games since his call up from the Gulf Coast League in July.

Today's offensive explosion totaled 12 hits from the Danville lineup, with four different batters racking up multiple hits on the day. Alejandro Piloto was not one of those four batters, but was the only other batter besides Tellor to drive in multiple runs for Danville. Piloto drove in the speedsters Joe Daris and Ozzy Albies on a single to right that made it a 7-0 game in the fourth inning.

Tomorrow the Danville Braves (26-16) will host the Princeton Rays (22-20) in the second game of the series, as Danville's Andry Ubiera (3-1, 2.87 ERA) and Princeton's Cameron Varga (0-0, 19.29 ERA) will take the mound in the pitching matchup. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
