Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans officially closed out their 2008 rookie camp as Team White defeated Team Blue 5-3 in the annual Todd Klassen Memorial Classic played before 502 fans at Toyota Arena. Through donations at the door, over $1,200 was raised for the Todd Klassen Memorial Scholarship fund.
Team White took an early 1-0 lead, just 15 seconds in the contest, as Richland-native Beau Walker scored his first of two goals on the evening. Brad Senner picked up the loose puck and passed it up to Walker, who beat Blue goaltender Jordan Liem between his stick and the right post.
Still holding onto their one-goal lead, Team White had a scary moment to start the second period. As two players rushed to the net, White goaltender Sam Dargene was caught up in the wash and taken down. Dargene left the ice under his own power, but did not return and was replaced by Kennewick-native Jacob Gilmore.
Max Moline gave White a 2-0 lead with his tally near the midway point of the second period. Moline knocked home a rebound shot from Kyle Davies to beat Liem. Nearly five minutes later, White's Nils Moser made it a 3-0 game when he beat Blue goaltender Reed Voght, top shelf, from the right circle.
But finally, with less than a minute remaining in the period, Blue got on the scoreboard off a Mak Barden shot. Zach Yuen and Josh Monk assisted on the play.
In the final period, the two squads exchanged goals, with each team picking up two tallies in the period. Walker and Justin Feser both scored for White, while Patrick Holland and Yuen recorded goals for Blue.
The Americans' main camp will kick-off tomorrow as the team gets ready for the Everett Silvertips Pre-Season Tournament from August 29-31. The team will then return home as they prepare for the Red Lion Pre-Season Tournament beginning next Thursday, September 4 at Toyota Center.
