Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 19)-All the 'Wanted' posters for the Brahmas offense can be thrown out as the Texas Brahmas defeated the Odessa Jackalopes in an offensive 7-3 romp.

The last time the two teams faced one another came in a Game Seven in the Southern Conference Finals last season where the Brahmas won in fine fashion 8-1 to advance to the CHL Finals, where they ultimately won their first title. Last year's postseason MVP, Jason Deitsch looked to be back in his scoring mode early beating Juha Toivonen with a pass from new linemate Elias Godoy. Texas was able to get back on the boards with five minutes remaining in the period when James Hiebert netted his second goal of the season for the 2-0 lead going into the intermission.

Jordan Cameron gave the purple and black the three goal lead early in the second when he lit the lamp at the 2:31 mark. Things began to get heated up on the Odessa ice when Brahmas defenseman Luke Sellars dropped the gloves with Garrett Gruenke midway in the period. The aggression seemed to awaken the Jackalopes as they scored two unanswered powerplay goals on Brett Jaeger to put Odessa within one. The breathing room was a bit too tight for Cameron when he blazed a shot from A.J. Gale and Grant Jacobsen past Toivonen for his second of the evening. Fifty-one seconds later, forward Matt Burto followed suit when he gave Texas the 5-2 lead with a couple minutes left in the second.

As the final period digressed Texas' offense continued to flair when the Brahmas powerplay was able to convert with a Grant Jacobsen goal, his sixth of the year. With the league leading powerplay unit, Odessa was able to post one more goal but Texas allowed only a two minutes of celebration when Burto counteracted with a special teams goal of their own from Burto. Forwards Jacobsen, Hiebert, Burto and Cameron finished the night with three points apiece and Jaeger stopped 15-of-18 shots for his third victory of the season.

The Brahmas now will hit the road for a game against the RioGrande Valley Killer Bees tomorrow night at 7:35 PM. On Saturday Texas will face the Laredo Bucks on the road for a 7:30 game. Fans can catch all the action pay-per-view through CHL-TV or can attend the game watching parties at ZuRoma Bar and Grill at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
