Sundogs Ink Former ECHL All-Star And NHL Draft Pick Brett Hemingway

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the addition of former NHL draft pick and ECHL All-Star Brett Hemingway to the team's roster. In addition, forward Jason Visser has been placed on 14-day I.R.

Hemingway, 26, appeared in six games with the ECHL's Alaska Aces to start the 2009-10 season, picking up one assist and eight penalty minutes (PIM) before joining Arizona.

In 58 regular season games with Alaska in 2008-09, the Surrey, British Columbia, native recorded 10 goals, 32 assists and 50 PIM. Hemingway added two assists in seven postseason appearances last season.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward split time with the Fresno Falcons, Reading Royals and Alaska during his rookie campaign in 2007-08, registering 21 goals, 29 assists and 64 PIM in a combined 67 contests. He was selected to the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game while with Reading where he tallied one goal and two assists.

In his first postseason action with Alaska in 2008, Hemingway collected six points (1g/5a) and 16 PIM in nine games.

Originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Hemingway enrolled at the University of New Hampshire and earned Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors. He scored 22 goals as a sophomore and 19 more as a junior to lead the Wildcats to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in the NCAA tournament and closed out his collegiate career with 134 points (61g/73a) in 150 games.

Visser has notched eight points (5g/3a) and four PIM and is plus-5 in 12 games this with Arizona this season. His five goals are tied for second-most on the team.
