Stockton Lightning News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning announced WR Joe Taula (TALL-ah) has been acquired from the Tri-Cities Fever in exchange for future considerations. Completing the transaction, the Lightning have dealt WR Atnas Maeko to Tri-Cities, Lightning interim head coach Chad Carlson announced today.
The Lightning also announced the following roster transactions:
ÂÅ QB Chad Elliott placed on re-assignment
ÂÅ OL/DL Bryan Gabourel placed on team suspension
ÂÅ WR/DB Robert Henson assigned by the af2 league office
ÂÅ WR/DB Raymond Little activated off injured reserve
ÂÅ WR Etu Molden placed on re-assignment
ÂgWhen I came here I didnÂft want to play any favorites for the quarterback position - I wanted one who was tough, fast and talented and Andy Collins fits what weÂfre looking for,Âh said Carlson. ÂgWe wish Etu well and weÂfre not sure if his heart was in it, but weÂfre positive Joe Taula and Robert Henson can be solid contributors. TheyÂfre multi-taskers, theyÂfre long, can play offense and defense.Âh
Taula appeared in three games this season with the Fever, registering 1.5 tackles in three games and was in uniform for his most recent game against the Lightning on May 24. A product of the Boys College of Keaston (New Zealand), Taula earned a spot on the New Zealand international squad as quarterback.
Henson, 23, spent four years of his college football career (2004-07) at Shaw University (NCAA Division-II), tallying 17 catches, 236 yards and one touchdown while posting 38.0 tackles and three interceptions in 33 career games for the Bears. The 6-foot, 200-pound receiver and defensive back had a career-high 31 tackles in 12 games as a 2007 senior, helping guide the nationally-ranked program to its second CIAA conference championship in four seasons.
Taula will wear jersey number 14 and Henson will wear jersey number 22, who are both scheduled to make their Lightning debut this Saturday when the Lightning face the Central Valley Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The game can be heard live on radio at 1420 KSTN and viewed online, free-of-charge at www.stocktonlightning.com (courtesy of Nifty Online TV).
