Tampa Rallies for 6-3 Win

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Tampa Tarpons rallied late for a 6-3 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday at First Data Field.

The Mets led 3-1 after six innings. A two-out RBI single from Steven Sensley in the seventh cut the lead to 3-2. In the top of the eighth Dom Thompson-Williams hit a game-tying solo home run.

The Tarpons scored three runs in the top of the ninth to break a 3-3 tie. Angel Aguilar hit a solo home run to make it 4-3 Tampa. Chace Numata launched a RBI triple that made it 5-3. Numata would score on a double play ball to put the Tarpons up 6-3.

Aguilar ended up 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run, a single, two RBI and two runs scored.

David Wright and Jay Bruce continued to rehab with St. Lucie. Bruce went 2 for 3 and hit a home run. He played the entire game at first base. Wright went 0 for 3 while playing seven innings at third base.

Mets starter Gabriel Llanes delivered his seventh quality start in his last eight outings. He limited the Tarpons to two runs (one earned) over seven solid innings. He retired Estevan Florial to end the seventh and strand two runners in scoring position. That helped the Mets maintain a 3-2 lead.

Mets reliever Trey Cobb suffered the loss. The Tarpons tagged him for four runs in two innings.

Kyle Zurak pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Anthony Dimino went 3 for 4 in the loss for the Mets.

The Mets (24-33, 51-73) and Tarpons (28-30, 63-65) conclude their series on Thursday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. It is the final Dollar Night at First Data Field. Fans can enjoy $1 beer (8 oz. cans of Bud and Bud Light), $1 hot dogs, $1 soda and $1 popcorn.
