
Tampa Cruises to 8-2 Win in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees dropped the Fort Myers Miracle, 8-2, at Hammond Stadium in the series opener on Friday evening.
The Yankees pushed across a run in the top of the first inning off Miracle starter Randy Rosario. Abiatal Avelino reached on a one-out walk and advanced to third when Billy Fleming singled into left center. Fleming was thrown out at second base by Max Murphy for the second out. Miguel Andujar was able to drive in Avelino when he bounced a base hit up the middle, 1-0.
Tampa posted five runs in the fifth to take a commanding 6-0 lead. With one out, Jorge Mateo earned a walk from Rosario (2-4) and advanced to second on an Avelino hit up the middle. After Fleming flew out to center field, Andujar picked up his second RBI of the night with a base knock up the middle to bring in Mateo.
The Yankees scored two more runs when Tanner Witt dropped a pop up off the bat of Zack Zehner in shallow center. Rosario then walked Michael O'Neill and Austin Aune capped off the five-run inning with a double sliced into left center.
In the seventh, the Miracle erased Tampa starter Josh Rogers bid at a shutout. With two out, Max Murphy singled up the middle. Then, Alex Real launched a 389-foot blast over the wall in left center field for a two-run homer., 6-2. His fourth of the season, Real has now homered in back-to-back games.
Tampa scored two unearned runs against Luke Bard to cruise to an 8-2 win.
Rosario took the loss after 4.2 innings with six runs allowed, two earned, on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts. John Curtiss tossed 2.1 perfect frames in relief and Bard surrendered the two unearned runs on one hit over two innings.
Rogers (1-2) earned his first win of the season after tossing seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
The Miracle (23-19) continue the series with Tampa (26-16) on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. followed by a pre-Memorial Weekend fireworks display. Stephen Gonsalves (5-1) will take the hill for Fort Myers against Yankees' right-hander Will Carter (0-0). The Miracle will wear a special camouflage jersey to honor military veterans and the each jersey will be auctioned off during the game to benefit Veteran Country Jam.
