Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
BRADENTON, FL - A wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth inning brought the winning run home for the Bradenton Marauders (21-19) in the opening game of a four game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays (17-25) on Friday night.
The Jays used five innings of one-run ball to take an early lead on a pair of two-run home runs. RF Jonathan Davis connected in the second inning followed by 1B Ryan McBroom's bomb in the third. McBroom's home run extended his hit streak to 13 games.
RHP Conner Greene walked and struck out four hitters over five innings, but saw RHP Conor Fisk (L, 2-1) relieve him in the sixth in a 4-1 game after a high pitch count. Fisk worked a clean sixth before allowing three runs to score in the seventh. The tying run came home when DH Kevin Kramer provided his second straight RBI-hit, singling home SS Kevin Newman.
With the bullpen short on arms, Fisk continued to work through to the tenth. The Jays saw run-scoring opportunities, but could not capitalize. After LHP Stephen Tarpley allowed the four runs through four innings, RHP Tate Scioneaux, RHP Nick Neumann and RHP Luis Heredia (W, 3-0) shut down Dunedin for the rest of the game.
After 3B Connor Joe reached on a leadoff infield single in the bottom of the tenth, he found himself on third with two outs after a pair of walks. With Ramirez on the mound and a 1-2 count on Newman, the pitch sailed to the backstop, causing C Michael De La Cruz to run after the ball. The catcher caught a lucky ricochet, and Ramirez covered home. The ball beat the runner Joe to the plate, but Ramirez's tag was not applied in time, ending the game then and there.
These two teams will play three more in Bradenton over the next three days with game two on Saturday night at 6:30. RHP Chris Rowley toes the rubber for Dunedin while RHP Colten Brewer pitches for the Marauders.
