Talent Loses Out To Depth As Vermont Nips Corning 91-86

November 25, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Corning Bulldogs News Release

The Corning Bulldogs used superior talent to jump out early on the defending champion Vermont Frost Heaves. The Corning Bulldogs were up 12 points midway through the second quarter until Vermont went on a run and took a 7 point lead into half time.

The Bulldogs came out of the locker room fresh and jumped out early on Vermont once again and took the lead back. Vermont was able to catch back up and then it was nip and tuck for the rest of the game.

With Corning in the lead 82-81 with less then three minutes remaining in the game the officials made a controversial charge call against the Corning Bulldogs, Al Stewart. Vermont scored on the next trip down the court and was able to escape from Corning, NY with a 91-86 win.

Vermont seemed to have no answer for the Corning Bulldog's floor general as Al Stewart led both teams as the high scorer finishing with 22 points, 5 assists. Vermont was led by Dokun Akingbade who finished the game with 16 points.

Corning Bulldogs head coach, James R. Schutz had the following comments : "They have great depth and we have great talent. I feel we should have won the game, we had it won and we lost it, that is what hurts the most. I take my hat off to Vermont they have great depth, great coaching and they snuck out with a win."

The Corning Bulldogs will be at home again on Wednesday November 28th for a 8pm tip off against the 4-1 Manchester Millrats.
