Tycoons look to improve
November 25, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Texas Tycoons News Release
The Texas Tycoons notched their fourth straight win of the season, defeating the West Texas Whirlwinds by the score of 126 - 71. The 55 point win, marks the largest margin of victory in Tycoons' history.
The Tycoons' depth proved to be the difference, as all twelve players logged significant playing time.
Tycoons' General Manager, Mike Senters, had this to say regarding the win and team roster. "We don't rebuild. We reload! Over the past couple of years, several of our key players have moved on to contracts with the NBDL, CBA, and the top European leagues. With that said, the bar has been set pretty high around here. We continue to expect excellence from everyone wearing a Tycoons uniform.
I have the utmost respect for Cleveland Phelps and the West Texas Whirlwinds. They are professional and attempting to do things the right way. We are not 55 points better than them. Things just went our way tonight. Last March, we lost to Vermont by 48 in the championship. We made no formal complaints about going to the airport at 4am, with connecting flights, a 3 hour bus ride and so forth to arrive just before tip off on game day. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME DAY!
Regardless, the game was decided on the court. Are they 48 points better than us? We damn sure plan to find out! A rematch with Vermont would be great, but we have a long way to go. For now, our focus is on getting better with each game and every practice."
The Tycoons were lead by the explosive front court combination of of Jai Pradia and Tyrone Rayson. Pradia contributed 20 pts, 13 rebs and 6 blocked shots. Rayson has been a monster this season. The Tycoons' leading scorer posted 19 pts, 15 rebs, 3 blocked shots and 2 assists in twenty-four minutes of play.
A pleasant surprise for the Tycoons, was the emergence of rookie guard Melvin Mitchell. Mitchell, a high school teammate of Utah Jazz sensation Deron Williams, had a solid performance. The Colony graduate scored 21 points in his Tycoons' debut.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
