Worn down Bulldogs drop two nail-biters on the road

Corning Bulldogs News Release


The Corning Bulldogs faced a 900 mile round trip with two games in two different states with only 15 hours in between games. Ronald Wright the teams starting power forward played both games with a sprained ankel he suffered in the blow out win against First State Fusion while Starting Small Forward Darnell Jackson played with a severe case of the Flu.

Corning blew a 12 point lead in Boston with 7 minutes remaining in the game. Corning fought from behind in the final seconds to force overtime and a worn down Bulldogs team fought to the end in a 1 point heart breaking overtime loss to the Boston Blizzard by the final score of 106-107.

The Bulldogs then recieved news that the Westchester game was not to be played at 7:15 as it was on the orginal schedule the team recieved from the ABA. With the new start time at 1:15pm in Peekskill, NY. The worn down Bulldogs scrambled to get to the game in time with only a 15 hour span in between the overtime loss to Boston and the start of the next game. Westchester jumped out to a 26 point lead in the first half but the Bulldogs did not give up. Corning staged a furious comeback and took a 5 point lead in the 4th quarter before finally running out of gas for good and dropping the game by 4 points at the very end by the score of 125-121.

Co-Owner James R. Schutz had the following to say : " I am very proud of these player's. We took two good teams down to the buzzer on a long road trip with only 6 healthy players. "

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday, November 25th @3pm vs the ABA defending champion Vermont Frost Heaves on the Campus of Corning Community College.
