Tacoma wins over Tucson

Tacoma sent ten batters to the plate in the first inning and beat the Tucson Padres 8-4 Thursday. Simon Castro pitched only two-thirds of an inning, allowed four runs on three hits, walked two and threw three wild pitches in the rain at Cheney Stadium. The Padres ended up using six pitchers in the final game of the four game set, with Scott Munter, Samuel Deduno and Randy Flores tossing scoreless outings.

The Padres offense showed life in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, cutting the Rainiers' lead to three. They would end up leaving two on base in both the fifth and seventh innings, and left ten runners on base in the game. Aaron Cunningham walked twice, but ended an eight game hitting streak by going 0-for-3. Alex Cintron had his best game as a Tucson Padre, going 3-for-5 with a double. Jesus Guzman raised his average to .349, going 3-for-5 with a home run and a double.

The Padres lost three out of four in the series, and travel to Chukchansi Park in Fresno tomorrow. With the Padres loss and Sacramento's win, Tucson (13-15) is now in a third place tie with Las Vegas, four games out of first place. All four games in Tacoma started with the temperature in the 50's; it is forecasted to be 91 degrees in Fresno tomorrow.
