
Tacoma Defiance Falls 3-1 to Phoenix Rising FC for First Home Loss of the Season

TACOMA, WASH. - Tacoma Defiance (8-6-6, 30 points) fell 3-1 to Phoenix Rising FC (13-3-5, 44 points), losing at home for the first time this season (6-1-3).
Phoenix Rising FC scored early when an errant pass went off the foot of Defiance defender Josh Atencio and Darren Mattocks was able to slot the ball home in the fourth minute. The visitors doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Mattocks got on the end of a corner kick, heading the ball in to bag his second of the day. Tacoma was able to bring one back moments later in the 35th minute when a Danny Leyva free kick found the head of Sam Adeniran for his second goal in as many matches. In the 90th minute, Phoenix's Santi Moar was able to convert a penalty to put the game out of reach for Tacoma.
Abdoulaye Cissoko was injured before halftime following a collision in the 18-yard-box, forcing him to be substituted from the match for Taylor Mueller. Cissoko is set to he reevaluated this coming week by the club's medical staff. Additionally, Atencio received his second yellow of the day in the 59th minute and was sent off.
Tacoma gets a 10-day break before hitting the road to take on Oakland Roots SC for the third time this season on September 15 (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
