Tacoma Defiance News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - Tacoma Defiance (8-10-6, 30 points) fell 2-1 to Phoenix Rising FC (17-3-5, 56 points) at Cheney Stadium Saturday evening. Tacoma is currently level with Oakland Roots SC for the fourth and final playoff position in the Pacific Division standings, with eight games left in the 2021 regular-season campaign.
After over 75 minutes of scoreless play, it was Phoenix who got on the board first in the 78th minute courtesy of Jon Bakero, who received a cross from Darnell King and was able to tap it into the back of the net. Not three minutes later did Tacoma level the score when Sam Adeniran got the ball alone up top and slotted it away after the Phoenix goalkeeper came out and whiffed a clearance attempt. It was the striker's team-leading seventh goal of the season. Rising FC secured the win after a shot by Santi Moar deflected off a Defiance defender and sailed into the goal in the 90th minute.
Wade Webber's side has a week off before it heads down to California to face off against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, October 2 (7:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
