Greens Pick up Big Win over Indy
September 26, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
OKC Energy FC News Release
Jaime Chavez and Aidan Daniels each scored, and Villyan Bijev assisted on both, as Energy FC beat Indy Eleven 2-0 Sunday night at Taft Stadium.
The Greens struck first in the 29th minute through Jaime Chavez. Villyan Bijev picked up the ball near midfield, drove forward, slipped in Chavez with a pass that split the Indy defense, and the striker calmly rolled the ball past the onrushing Robert Edwards from just inside the penalty area.
Chavez almost found the back of the net again three minutes later when he turned and fired from the top of the box, but Edwards was able to palm it away to safety.
Second-half substitute Aidan Daniels nearly doubled the lead in the 66th minute when his volley hit the crossbar, but he was able to finish with aplomb in the 74th minute to give the Greens the two-goal lead. Again, Bijev was the provider after cleverly lifting a ball over the top of the Indy defense for Daniels to volley home from close range.
Nick Law came close to cutting the deficit in half with a spectacular volley in the 79th minute, but CJ Cochran was more than up for the task and tipped the ball over the goal with a top-quality save.
Cochran and the OKC defense held on for the clean sheet - their eighth of the season. Bijev now leads the team with six assists.
Energy FC moves to 34 points and remains in the fourth and final playoff spot in the Central Division.
The Greens' homestand continues in three days with another match against Indy Eleven on Wednesday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at energyfc.com/sept29.
