October 31, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Tacoma Defiance News Release
CHANDLER, ARIZ. - Tacoma Defiance (10-13-9, 39 points) drew 1-1 with Phoenix Rising FC (20-5-7, 67 points) in Arizona Saturday evening.
Sam Adeniran got Tacoma on the board first in the 30th minute when he poked in a deflection after his initial cross bounced off a Phoenix defender back to Adeniran's feet at the far post. It marked Adeniran's team-leading 13th goal of the season, which also set the Tacoma Defiance record for most goals in a single season, passing Justin Dhillon's mark of 12 goals set in 2019.
Phoenix leveled the score in the 70th minute, when Arturo Rodriguez was fed a chipped through ball by Jon Bakero that got through the back line and was able to finish past Christian Herrera.
With the result, in combination with Oakland Roots SC's 1-0 win against Sporting Kansas City II, Defiance failed to qualify for the postseason by two points.
