Sporting Kansas City II Concludes 2021 Season with 1-0 Loss at Oakland Roots SC
October 31, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release
Sporting Kansas City II (4-20-8, 20 points) concluded their 2021 USL Championship season with a 1-0 loss against Oakland Roots SC (11-13-8, 41 pts.) at Laney College Football Stadium on Sunday night. Jesus Enriquez scored the only goal of the game just two minutes into the contest.
Oakland raced into an early lead as Enriquez latched onto a loose ball in the area after Kendall McIntosh had done well to take the ball off the toe of another Oakland forward, but it allowed Enriquez to slam home his fourth goal of the season into an empty net.
Kayden Pierre and Enoch Mushagalusa both saw half chances go by the wayside as the half wore on, before McIntosh was called into action again to deny Jose Hernandez from close range in the 23rd minute.
Mushagalusa went close again early in the second half as his chipped attempt floated narrowly wide of the far post. Oakland substitute Jeremy Bokila had an opportunity to add a second goal in the 81st minute but the ball ran away from him at the vital moment and McIntosh smothered.
SKC II saw their final chance of the match go begging in the 87th minute as sub Rojay Smith dribbled into the area but struck his powerful shot over the bar.
The result brings an end to Sporting II's 2021 season in the USL Championship, with the team finishing in eighth place in the Eastern Central Division.
