T-Bones Take Series Finale

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones won the series finale with the Schaumburg Flyers, 9-7, today in front of a season-high Sunday crowd of 6,202 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Schaumburg jumped on the T-Bones early, scoring two runs in the top of the second off T-Bones starter Anthony Boughner. The Flyers loaded the bases before Chris Gaskin scored on an error by T-Bones third baseman Neb Brown. Boughner walked in the Flyers second run of the inning.
Geoff McCallum led off the bottom of the third inning with a walk against Schaumburg starter Steve Shippey. Aharon Eggleston then singled, moving McCallum to third. In his T-Bones debut, Bo Hart tripled home both runners, tying the score at two.
Kansas City capitalized on a throwing error by Lance Koenig in the bottom of the fourth, allowing Eric Scriven to get to second. McCallum then singled, plating Scriven to give the T-Bones a one-run lead. The Flyers quickly tied the game in the fifth when Peanut Williams singled home Vince Harrison from second. Boughner left after five, giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits as he improved to 5-3.
The see-saw battle continued when the T-Bones scored four in the bottom half of the inning on a trio of home runs by Greg Jacobs, Craig Hurba and Brown, making the score 7-3. Shippey left after five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on nine hits as he fell to 2-6.
Brady Martinez entered for Boughner and retired the first five batters he faced before surrendering a walk and giving way to Payton Tweddale. The first batter the new hurler faced, Calvin Pickering, homered to right-center to pull the Flyers within two, 7-5.
Kansas City added another run in the eighth when Hurba hit a sacrifice popup to second base, scoring Jacobs. After Schaumburg plated two against reliever Todd Moser on a double by Rob Fischer in the eighth, the T-Bones added an insurance run on an RBI single from Ken Harvey, pushing the final total to 9-7.
David Trahan finished the game with a perfect ninth for Kansas City, earning his 15th save of the season.
The T-Bones travel tomorrow before kicking off a three-game series on Tuesday with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 7:00.
