KANSAS CITY, Kan. - On a rainy Sunday afternoon, the Kansas City T-Bones beat the Sioux City Explorers, 3-2, with a walk-off walk to end their three-game losing streak at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
For the first time in the series, the T-Bones struck first. First baseman, Kyle Petty's RBI single scored designated hitter, Kevin Keyes, putting Kansas City up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Five scoreless innings later, the Explorers' shortstop, Nate Samson, launched a two-run home run to left field scoring right fielder, Michael Lang to give Sioux City a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
The T-Bones were able to tie the game up at two in the seventh, after a five inning scoring drought. Shortstop, Eddie Newton, scored right fielder, Chantz Mack, with an RBI single to right field.
Kansas City just missed a grand slam opportunity to take control of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Catcher, Tony Caldwell, launched the ball to deep center field and just as it looked like the T-Bones would get the win, center fielder, Tony Campana, made a diving catch maintaining the 2-2 score going into the top of the ninth inning.
Right-handed pitcher, Keith Picht, couldn't move the game to extra innings, walking in the winning run with the bases loaded for the T-Bones. Kansas City beat Sioux City 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, ending their three game losing streak.
T-Bones' right-handed pitcher, Cody Winiarski, picked up the win for Kansas City, while right-handed pitcher, Brad Orosey, dropped the Explorers' first game of the series.
The T-Bones will begin a six game road trip with the Lincoln Saltdogs and the Sioux City Explorers on Tuesday, June 27 at 6:45 p.m. at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.
