KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Andrew Cruse (2-1) gave the Kansas City T-Bones (9-4) eight strong innings as they took the rubber match of a three-game set against the Lake County Fielders (5-8), 4-1, this afternoon at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
In front of 3,340 fans, the T-Bones opened the scoring in the second when Jim Fasano scored on an RBI single by Dwayne White off Lake County starter Jeff Long (0-2). The Fielders answered in the fourth when Jeff Dunbar singled and later scored on a throwing error, tying the score at one.
With one swing, Kansas City took the lead back in the fourth when White homered for the second time in as many days. The three-run home run capped the scoring at 4-1 and marked White's fourth long ball of the year, tying him for the league lead. He finished the contest three-for-four with four RBI.
Long allowed four runs on four hits in four innings in the loss.
The lone fourth-inning run was Cruse's only blemish in the contest. He exited after eight innings have given up one unearned run while scattering seven hits and striking out eight. He faced more than four batters just once in an inning and struck out the side in the fifth.
Justin James earned another save with a perfect ninth, striking out one. His fourth save of the year now ties him for the league lead.
Kansas City has an off-day Thursday before beginning a three-game series against the Joliet Jackhammers on Friday. Reid Santos will take the mound for the T-Bones opposite Rory Shortell in game one. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Catch all the action through streaming webcast at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
