Joliet JackHammers News Release

JOLIET, IL - The JackHammers stayed hot Wednesday afternoon hitting three home runs to blow past the RiverHawks 10-2 in front of 3,366 fans at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers look for the four game sweep tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m.

Joliet (8-5) wasted little time with four in the first, which was plenty of runs support for Ross Stout (1-1). Jonathan Wyatt and Kevin Rios led off the game with a walk and sacrifice bunt, with Rios reaching on a throwing error by Jake Eigsti. Rockford manager, Bob Koopman, argued the call that Eigsti's throw pulled Patrick O'Sullivan off the bag and was ejected. Brad Correll followed up the ejection with an RBI single and Freddie Thon crushed a three run homer to right center for a 4-0 lead.

Stout didn't need any more, shutting out the RiverHawks in his seven innings of work. The right-hander allowed only six hits and struck out five to earn his first victory.

The JackHammers played long ball throughout the game, adding two more in the sixth on a Jon Nelson moon shot to left center off Roger Lincoln (1-1). Kevin Rios touched up Lincoln in the seventh to bounce the Rockford starter, lifting a high fly ball just over the glove of Kevin House in left field for an 8-0 advantage.

Lincoln departed after surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in 6.1 innings.

The RiverHawks (6-8) picked up two runs in the ninth to spoil the shut out. Rich Austin scored on a passed ball and David Cooper picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice against Nathan Ginsberg.

Thon led the way with three hits and three runs batted in, giving him seven RBI in the last two games. Correll picked up three hits and drove home a run with a single in the first.

The JackHammers are now 5-1 on the seven game home stand with tomorrow's game against Rockford on the docket. Todd Privett (1-0) will face off with Brett Durand (2-0) on the bump. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.

Loose Gravel - Jon Nelson has now homered in three straight games and leads the team with four.

- Kevin Rios' home run extended his hitting streak to nine games

- Roberto Mena made it seven straight games with a hit, reaching on a eighth
