Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, KAN - The T-Bones are the only franchise in the history of Kansas City professional sports to increase attendance numbers each year of existence. Drawing just 4,749 fans per game in 2003, the T-Bones have seen per game attendance grow each year to a record 5,852 in 2006. During the upcoming season, the T-Bones will see their 1 millionth fan pass through the gates at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, as early as the first home-stand of the season. By creating a family atmosphere utilizing quirky promotions, the T-Bones have strived to accomplish their goal of "Fun, Well Done." However, despite all the attendance success, the team has made the Northern League playoffs only once in 4 years, in 2004. That's why an emphasis on winning baseball games has been added to help cultivate a culture of success in 2007.
"At our season ticket holder party in early August the message was loud and clear, 'we want to win,'" said Rick Muntean, T-Bones vice president and general manager. "I have been in this business for 25 years, including starting 3 teams from scratch, and even though the fans love the zany promotions and pricing structure of the franchise, eventually the quality of the overall product is affected by what goes on between the white lines. After all, we are a professional BASEBALL team. It was the voice of our everyday fan, the fact that we felt that if we win now and establish a winning tradition that we will keep our fan base and continue to grow, and the opportunity to hire one of the best Independent Baseball managers in Andy McCauley, that led us to make the off-season moves we did. We expect to win and make the playoffs in 2007. And as we all know, when you get in the playoffs, anything can happen. We hope our fans enjoy our upcoming season."
The T-Bones open play on May 17. Fans looking to renew a group night may do so now by calling (913)328-BALL. Individual game tickets go on sale Thursday, January 18 at 10am.
