
T-Birds take it to Bruins

SEATTLE November 22, 2006 - The Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Chilliwack Bruins 2- 0 Wednesday night in front of 3,077 at KeyArena.
Jacob DeSerres stopped all 30 shots attempted by the Bruins to nab his first career shutout in the WHL. DeSerres improved his record to 2-2-0-2.
The T-Birds are 10-6-1-5 with 26 points. They remain one point behind the Spokane Chiefs for third in the division. The Thunderbirds struck first at 11:00 of the opening period on the second goal of the year from Bud Holloway. Coming off a power-play, Jan Eberle corralled the puck in the far corner of the Chilliwack zone, and hit Aaron Gagnon behind the net. Gagnon's presence drew Chilliwack goalie Jim Watt to the right post in fear of a wraparound. Gagnon hit Holloway at the left post, behind the goaline. Holloway crashed the net and took wrister that beat a diving Watt at the right post for the 1-0 lead.
Seattle outshot Chilliwack 8-7 in the first period.
Seattle and Chilliwack each had 14 shots in a scoreless second period. The T-Birds led in shots on goal, 22-20, through two periods.
The T-Birds took a 2-0 lead at 7:59 of the third period on the ninth goal of the year from Eberle.
Gagnon lined up for a face-off on the right side of the Chilliwack zone and won the draw. The puck found Eberle near the right slot for a one-timer that sailed through traffic and beat Watt on the gloveside. Chilliwack (6-17-2-1) outshot Seattle 10-8 in the third. Both teams finished the game with 30 shots each.
Watt stopped 28 of 30 shots as his record falls to 3- 7-0-0.
The T-Birds return to KeyArena on Saturday, November 22, to take on the Calgary Hitmen of the Central Division for their only visit to Seattle this season. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Happy Thanksgiving.
