
T-Birds shutout Americans for game one victory

Kennewick, WA, March 23, 2007 - Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Derek Yeomans made 19 saves Friday night at the Toyota Center to lead the T- Birds to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Tri-City Americans.
Yeomans (1-0) faced seven shots in the first period, nine in the second period and only three shots in the third period.
Seattle leads the best-of-seven first round playoff series 1-0. These two teams meet again in Game 2 on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. the Toyota Center.
Tri-City (0-1) outshot Seattle 7-6 in the first period.
Seattle outshot (1-0) Tri-City 12-9 in the second period and led 18-16 in total shots after two periods.
Seattle took a 1- 0 lead at 15:34 of the third period on a power-play goal by Bud Holloway. Jan Eberle brought the puck into the Americans zone on the left side. He got a shot on goal that rebounded to Holloway in the slot leaving Tri-City goalie Carey Price out of position. Holloway slammed the rebound into the empty net for the go-ahead goal. Seattle was on the power play because of 5-minute major penalty for boarding to Aaron Boogaard of Tri-City. Brett Robertson scored an unassisted empty-net goal at 19:35 of the third to ice the game for the T-Birds. Robertson stole the puck at the Seattle blue line, maneuvered to the red line and lifted a shot that found the back of ht Tri-City net.
Seattle outshot Tri-City 13-3 in the third period and 31- 19 in the game.
Price (0-1) made 29 saves on 30 shots.
