New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release
Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds (8-6) went on a 13-0 run from the end of the third quarter to the beginning of the fourth to take control of their New Years Eve game against the Austin Toros (7-8) and win 112-92.
With the game tied 9-9 in the first quarter, the Thunderbirds went on a quick 6-0 run in 51 seconds to take a 15-9 lead. Josh Bostic led the way for the Thunderbirds in the first quarter, scoring 13 points and the Thunderbirds held a 28-20 lead after one quarter.
Dar Tucker opened the second quarter with a layup that gave the T-Birds a game high 10 point lead. Austin would answer with an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game since early in the first quarter, 31-30. After some back and forth play, the Toros closed the half on a 5-0 run to take a 55-49 lead at the break.
With 5:37 remaining in the third quarter, Lance Thomas hit a jump shot that gave Austin a 66-59 lead. The Thunderbirds answered with a 10-0 run to take a three-point lead. They would then score the final six points of the quarter to take an 80-72 lead heading into the fourth.
The Thunderbirds continued their run into the fourth quarter, scoring the first seven points of the quarter to pull away from the Toros for good.
Bostic led way for the Thunderbirds scoring a game high 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Shane Edwards added 20 points, 18 of them coming in the second half.
The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Sunday, January 2 against the Texas Legends at Dr. Pepper Arena at 4 p.m.
