
T-Birds lose close one to Blazers

SEATTLE, January 23, 2007 - The Kamloops Blazers beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Wednesday night in front of 3,037 at KeyArena.
The Thunderbirds are 22-14-1-1, with 56 points in the race for the U.S. Division title. The T-Birds are in third place, only three points behind the Tri-City Americans for second in the division.
The Blazers got on the board first at 12:23 of the opening period on a power-play goal from Ray Macias. Keaton Ellerby and Reid Jorgensen had the assists. Kamloops (33-13-1-1) outshot Seattle 11-6 in the first.
The T-Birds tied the game at 6:00 of the second period on the 14th goal of the year from Greg Scott. Brett Robertson took the puck into the Blazer zone along the far boards and got off a shot that deflected of the pads of Kamloops goalie Dustin Butler and fell loose into the crease. Prab Rai took a couple swipes at the puck, but was denied by Butler. Scott came around the back of the net from the left side and trickled a shot through the five-hole to make it 1-1.
Bud Holloway gave the T-Birds 2-1 lead at 13:31 of the second on his 19th goal of the season. Holloway took control of the puck along the far boards near the goal line. Holloway sidestepped his defender to get a clearer view of the goal, and then made a left to right move with his stick, that caught Butler off guard for the quick wrist shot at the right post. Scott Jackson and Brett Robertson had the assists on the power-play goal.
The Blazers tied it 2-2 at 18:34 of the second on a goal from Ryan Bender. Alex Rodgers and Matt Kassian had the assists.
Kamloops outshot Seattle 13-8 in the second and led 24-14 through two periods.
The Blazers made it 3-2 at 6:33 of the third period on a goal from Ivan Rohac. Tyler Shattock and CJ Stretch had the assists.
Seattle outshot Kamloops 11-6 in the third. The Blazers outshot the T-Birds, 30-25, on the night.
Derek Yeomans stopped 27 of 30 shots he faced as his record goes to 16-9-1-9.
Butler stopped 23 of 25 shots and his record improves to 30-9-0-0.
The Thunderbirds are back on the ice on Saturday, January 27, to take on their rivals to the north the Everett Silvertips. The puck drops in KeyArena at 7:05 p.m.
